Dynamic stability of composite plates having variable fiber distribution under periodic in-plane loads is investigated in this paper. The finite element method based on a high precision conforming bending element and the first-order shear deformation plate theory are used to obtain the mathematical model of the problem. Then, the modified governing equations, which take account the effects of variable fiber distribution, are formulated. The effects of varying fiber content on the instability region are examined. From the numerical results, it can be shown that the variable fiber distribution may result in a considerable improvement of dynamic stability of laminated composite plates without increase in mass.
