چکیده مقاله:

Background and objective: Thyroid cancer is one of the cancers whose incidence is increasing day by day and has a high incidence in young people. The purpose of this study is to investigate the frequency, incidence and geographic distribution of thyroid cancer in West Azarbaijan province and to identify high-risk areas for this disease. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, statistics related to new cases of thyroid cancer for all available years were obtained from Urmia University of Medical Sciences Cancer Registration Center (۲۰۱۳-۲۰۱۷). Next, by obtaining the desired population from the National Statistics Center of Iran, the cumulative incidence rate was calculated and the distribution maps of the determined cancers were drawn using ArcGIS software version ۸/۱۰.Results: The obtained results indicate that the incidence of thyroid cancer in Takab city was the highest compared to other places. Among women, the rate of incidence is higher than that of men, and in the age groups of ۳۱ to ۴۰ years, the rate of incidence is higher than other age groups. Conclusion: The incidence rate of thyroid cancer in the study area, especially in women aged ۳۱ to ۴۰, has been on the rise. This can be attributed to an increase in environmental risk factors, adherence to healthcare practices, and the utilization of advanced diagnostic methods
