چکیده مقاله:

This study investigates the feasibility of using pomegranate peel extract as a reducing agent for recovering valuable metals from Li-ion battery cathodes. Two leaching methods, hydrometallurgical and mechanochemical, were employed in an acetic acid medium. Both methods achieved high leaching efficiencies for nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium, with the mechanochemical approach demonstrating slightly superior performance (up to ۹۸.۱% recovery) at room temperature. This method offers the advantage of lower energy consumption compared to the hydrometallurgical approach (conducted at ۹۵ °C). Additionally, the use of an organic acid and a green reductant (pomegranate peel reductant) makes the process environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the study explores the impact of acetic acid concentration on the mechanochemical leaching process. An optimal concentration of ۱ M was identified, as higher concentrations resulted in minimal improvement in leaching efficiency. Overall, this research presents a promising approach for sustainable and efficient recycling of Li-ion batteries using a bio-based reductant and mild reaction conditions
