Graphite was recovered from spent lithium-ion batteries using a combination of crushing and de-adhesion with water leaching. The structural and electrochemical properties of recovered graphite were investigated using X-ray diffraction and galvanostatic charge/discharge. The results showed that the use of crushing and water leaching has the ability to separate graphite with high purity from spent batteries. In addition, utilizing water as a solvent can lead to the degradation of various lithium compounds present in the electrolyte-solid layer (SEI), including Li۲CO۳, Li۲O, and CH۳OLi. This degradation process helps in renovating the electrochemical performance of recycled graphite. The recovered graphite had a specific capacity of ۴۵۰ mAh/g at ۵۰۰ mA/g with a capacity retention of ۸۹% following ۱۰۰ charge/discharge cycling at a current rate of ۲۰۰ mA/g.
