چکیده مقاله:

The rapid expansion of the tourism industry has resulted in significant economic advantages for many regions worldwide, contributing to job creation, infrastructure development, and overall economic growth. However, this growth has not come without challenges. One of the most concerning consequences of tourism expansion has been the degradation of natural environments and the problem of overtourism, particularly in well-known and heavily frequented destinations. These adverse effects threaten the sustainability of tourism and its long-term viability. This paper investigates the potential of the metaverse, along with its associated digital tools, as a groundbreaking solution to these issues. By utilizing virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other cutting-edge technologies, the metaverse provides new and innovative alternatives to traditional physical travel. These technologies can alleviate the burden on overcrowded tourist sites by offering immersive digital experiences, thereby promoting more sustainable tourism practices. The study specifically focuses on how virtual tourism can enhance inclusivity by allowing broader access to tourism experiences, improve accessibility for people with disabilities, and foster sustainability by reducing the environmental footprint of travel. Moreover, the paper emphasizes the role of the metaverse in managing destinations, marketing strategies, and branding initiatives. In addition, it addresses significant challenges, including technological barriers and concerns related to preserving cultural authenticity in digital spaces. The findings contribute to ongoing research in sustainable tourism, highlighting the metaverse's potential to reduce overtourism and promote more responsible travel behaviors. Finally, the paper outlines recommendations for future research and provides practical insights for industry stakeholders, including policymakers and tourism managers.
