چکیده مقاله:
Women have played an important role in English literature from the past to the present. From poems and novels written by women, to strong and independent female characters portrayed in the works of other writers, the presence of women in English literature has been very prominent and influential. However, an examination of this topic shows that the position of women in English literature has gradually improved over time. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, women were rare as writers and central characters in literary works. But over time and with social changes, women have had a more widespread presence in English literature. Famous female writers of this period include Jane Austen and Emily Bronte, who gained fame with works such as "Pride and Prejudice" and "Jane Eyre". These writers were able to offer a new perspective on the role of women in society and had a significant impact on English literature. For example, the character of Jane Eyre in the novel of the same name portrays an image of an independent and strong woman who seeks independence and self-awareness. This image represents a kind of revolution in the view of women and their role in society at that time. With the advancement of women in the field of English literature, we have witnessed the emergence of more feminine and powerful female characters in modern and contemporary works. Famous writers such as Virginia Woolf, George Eliot, and Sylvia Plath, with works like "To the Lighthouse", "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan", and "The Bell Jar", were able to offer a new and progressive perspective on gender and the role of women in English society. The works of these writers, including feminist and critical theories, have raised issues regarding power systems and discrimination against women, challenging them. For example, in the novel "To the Lighthouse", Virginia Woolf focuses on the mind and inner thoughts of the main character, providing a deep insight into the social and gender relationships of her time and thus examining the endless role of women in society. These themes and ideas have greatly contributed to changing society's attitude towards women and the transformations that have taken place in this regard. Therefore, the presence of women in English literature as writers and main characters is of great importance, indicating a significant cultural and social transformation
