چکیده مقاله:
This thesis examines representations of trauma in Ann Griffin’s novel When All Is Said. The analysis is based on psychoanalysis, trauma theory, and Sigmund Freud’s work on mourning and melancholia. The analysis section begins with discussing the various representations of trauma in the novel. The relationship between learning disability, physical abuse, revenge, and a person’s memory and identity is examined with details. Following these, representations of mourning and melancholia are analyzed with reference to the main character’s losses. The thesis concludes that based on the theories used, the experiences of the main character are in fact traumatic, and the issues he faces later on in life are results of those traumatic experiences. The mental processes of the main character regarding his different losses fit the characteristics of mourning and melancholia.
