Sociological Analysis of Barriers to Women's Participation in Bodybuilding

The aim of this study is to conduct a sociological analysis of the factors preventing women from participating in bodybuilding. The research is applied in terms of its objective and uses a qualitative method, specifically grounded theory, to collect data. In this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted to analyze the sociological barriers to women's participation in bodybuilding. The resulting factors were categorized into indicators and concepts within the conceptual model of grounded theory, which includes causal factors, intervening factors, contextual factors, strategies, and outcomes.The statistical population of this study consists of a number of coaches, athletes, and officials working in the field of women's sports, particularly bodybuilding. The sampling method used was purposive and snowball sampling. Sampling continued until theoretical saturation was achieved, resulting in a sample size of ۲۰ individuals. The research tool was semi-structured interviews, and to ensure reliability, interviews were documented using audio recordings. Additionally, the coding, conceptualization, and extraction of categories were overseen by two grounded theory experts using an auditing technique.The results indicate a total of ۱۲۴ indicators related to gender discrimination and existing limitations in women's sports. These indicators were categorized into topics such as "management issues," "role modeling and knowledge management," "political factors," "sports planning and policymaking," "structural and executive factors," "gender and personality factors," "culture and social values," "religion and religious beliefs," "financial issues," and "formal and informal institutions." These categories were then classified under the main categories derived from the grounded theory approach.
