Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as ۳D printing, has led to the development of metametallic components that represent a great step forward in material engineering. Digital source file is used in a novel fabrication process to create complex structures from these metametals: Ti alloys, nickel based super alloys, refractory metals and Metal matrix composites. AM applied to metametals represents a route to unprecedented design flexibility, cost efficient, time to market, and high performing parts when compared with traditional manufacturing methods. This analysis focuses on prevalent AM technologies being used in metametal manufacturing, and describes the benefits of AM technology and describes the challenges with AM of metametals and proposes a way forward for future developments in this transformative technology.
