The Correlation between Fear of Infection with Coronavirus Disease ۲۰۱۹ andthe Mental Health of Pregnant Women

Introduction: Pregnancy is a physiological phenomenon accompanied by numerous physical and psychologicalchanges. Fear of contracting diseases such as coronavirus disease ۲۰۱۹ or other illnesses for which scientificknowledge is still incomplete can create anxieties in pregnant women, impacting their mental health.Objective: The present study aimed to determine the association between fear of infection with COVID-۱۹ and themental health of pregnant women.Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on ۱۶۴ pregnant women attending Ayatollah Mousavi Hospital inZanjan, Iran, in ۲۰۲۱. Participants were randomly selected. Data were collected using demographic questionnaires,the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-۲۱), and the Fear of Disease Coronaviruses Scale (FDCS). Datawere analyzed using Spearman’s correlation coefficient.Results: Results demonstrated that ۲۳.۴% of participants experienced anxiety, ۱۸.۲% experienced depression, andonly ۱.۲% experienced stress. Fear of infection was positively and significantly correlated with anxiety (r= ۰.۱۸,p=۰.۰۱). Additionally, income adequacy (r= -۰.۲۴, p=۰.۰۰۲), and spousal support (r= -۰.۱۹, p=۰.۰۱) were alsonegatively and significantly correlated with fear of infection.Conclusion: Findings reveal that the COVID-۱۹ pandemic can culminate in fear and anxiety in pregnant women.Spousal support during this sensitive period and feelings of marital satisfaction can relieve anxiety in women
