In this article, a new model based on the Hertzian contact theorem is proposed to estimate the size of the line flaking defect on the bearing outer cup. The entry point is determined based on the ball-bowl geometric shape relationship, while the exit point is determined from the time domain signal. Therefore, the size of the defect can be estimated through the vibration signal without the need to measure the additional bearing load and stiffness. In this regard, experiments were conducted on a ۳-axis CNC machine tool with speeds of ۵۰۰-۳۰۰۰rpm, and using the proposed method, three flaking defects of the line were estimated. The proposed model is able to estimate the size of the defect with minimum error related to speed, offset error and standard deviation.
