This paper presents a thermohydraulic analysis of cross-flow finned tube heat exchangers for outdoor units in residential air conditioning and heat pump applications. The performance of heat exchangers significantly affects the energy efficiency of the system and the size of the ventilation and heat pump systems. The Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation are solved in the field of three-dimensional calculations, which include several types of finned tube heat exchangers. Instead of directly solving the flow and temperature fields for the heat exchanger outside the building, the finned tube row is approximated by a porous medium of similar permeability using a finite volume ۳D solution of a periodic finned element. It has been estimated. This information is required and time-efficient to perform calculations of the flow field of the entire system. The flow field and related heat transfer have been investigated for a wide range of speed on the surface and arrangement of finned tubes and the results have been compared with experimental data. The predicted pressure drops and heat transfer rate for different inlet velocities are in good agreement with the measured data.
