Spiritual Care Service Package for Patients with Cancer and Psychosomatic Disorders: A Mixed Methods Protocol Study

Background and purpose: Considering that the treatment of cancer and psychosomatic diseases incurs a considerable cost to the health system, it is necessary to design a suitable service package to reduce the cost and effectiveness of the treatment. The present study will be conducted to develop a spiritual care service package for patients with cancer and psychosomatic diseases. Materials and methods: In the first stage of this multistage mixed-method protocol, a systematic review of the literature regarding spiritual care in patients with cancer and psychosomatic disorders will be carried out in databases such as PubMed, Web of Sciences, Scopus, Magiran, SID, and Google Scholar in ۲۰۱۵ until June ۱, ۲۰۲۳ with keywords such as spiritual health, spirituality, spiritual care, cancer, psychosomatic, depression and anxiety which published in Persian and English language. In the second stage, the expert panel will be held to finalize the content of the spiritual care service package and specify the content of the package. Then, in the third stage, expert members who has expertise in this regard will be contacted and if be agree to participate in the panel, will assess the quality of the spiritual care service package using the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation Instrument II (AGREE II) tool. Results and conclusion: The designed service package will be implemented in the target population. In this stage, the indicators for measurement such as depression and anxiety, distress patient satisfaction, spiritual well-being and inpatient duration will be determined. This cost-effective, non-pharmacological service package can be performed in psychosomatic and oncology patients.
