چکیده مقاله:

In this research, the feasibility of solid-state recyclingof magnesium machining chips using friction stirextrusion (FSE) process is investigated. This methodderives its heat from spinning metal against metal, anddirect conversion of mechanical energy to thermalenergy as frictional heat generated between twosurfaces. In this study, the rotating plunge die rotates at۲۵۰ rpm and the plunge rate is ۱۴ mm.min-۱. Opticalmicroscopy is used to describe the microstructuresformed in the wire including distribution grainshomogeneity, microstructure without defecting, twinning dislocation, and fine recrystallized grain inwire’s cross-section. Mechanical properties of eachsample are characterized using both micro-hardnessand tensile tests. The results reveal that mechanicalproperties of wire are excellent and better than the firstmachined chips. Farctograghs from fracture of tensiletest reveal details of fracture occurring during tensiletests and show some impurities may have effects onfracture properties.
