Comparison of efficiencies of the Tangent Sphere and the conventional methods for determination of thediffuse direction for Monte Carlo simulations

In this paper the efficiency of the Tangent Spheremethod for determining diffuse direction in Monte Carlosimulations of radiative heat transfer problems iscompared with that of the Conventional method. Twostraight-forward nonparticipating media radiant heatexchange problems for which the solution requires eitherdiffuse shape factor or the radiative distribution factorsare used for this comparison. Results show that whenusing the Tangent Sphere method a speedup ofapproximately one order of magnitude can be achievedfor a desired accuracy.
