Influence of Variable Thermophysical Properties on Turbulent Mixed Convectionin a Vertical Channel

The purpose of this article is to investigate the effects ofvariable thermo-physical properties on mixed turbulentconvection between two vertical parallel plates kept atdeferent wall temperatures in entrance and fullydeveloped regions. Low Mach number Launder-Sharmaturbulence model and Sutherland’s law for variablethermo-physical properties (thermal conductivity anddynamic viscosity) are employed. The Reynolds numberbased on the channel half-width is assumed to be ۲۷۰۰and buoyancy effects are considered by Grashof numberof ۱.۷×۱۰۶. The variable properties effect on the turbulentstatistics including the mean velocity and temperature inboth entrance and fully developed region are examined.The numerical investigation is performed using theOpenFOAM open source CFD toolbox. The presentRANS results are compared with the DNS data availablein the literature.
