چکیده مقاله:

The modern era has brought about transformative changes in media and communication, reshaping societal norms, power structures, and cultural exchanges. This article delves into the sociology of media and communication, emphasizing how these mediums influence identity formation, societal cohesion, and global connectivity. Media today serve as more than mere tools for information dissemination; they are dynamic platforms where cultural narratives are constructed, contested, and shared. With the advent of digital technologies, traditional boundaries of communication have dissolved, allowing for both greater inclusion and the emergence of new challenges. This study adopts a multidisciplinary approach, integrating theories from sociology, critical theory, and communication studies to examine the role of media in modern society. The research highlights how media platforms can empower marginalized communities by providing avenues for representation and self-expression. However, it also critically examines issues of power concentration, algorithmic biases, and the commodification of culture, which reinforce existing inequalities.Social media has democratized content creation and enabled grassroots movements to challenge dominant narratives, yet it remains a double-edged sword, fostering echo chambers and misinformation. The paper also explores the cultural implications of globalization facilitated by media. While media foster cross-cultural understanding and exchange, they simultaneously risk homogenizing local traditions and privileging dominant cultures. Ethical concerns surrounding data privacy, misinformation, and algorithmic accountability further complicate the media landscape. This study concludes that media are integral to shaping modern societal values and identities, demanding critical engagement from policymakers, technologists, and users alike. By fostering equitable and inclusive media ecosystems, societies can harness the transformative potential of media while mitigating its risks. Future research should focus on the long-term impacts of evolving media technologies on societal structures and cultural dynamics.
