Zeolites are extensively used in industrially significant catalytic reactions, including catalytic cracking and carbon conversion applications. In certain processes, the catalysts in reactors and regenerators are exposed to harsh conditions where high temperatures combine with steam, leading to potential structural degradation of the zeolite catalyst. Under these severe hydrothermal conditions, zeolite frameworks are susceptible to structural damage through hydrolysis, which can compromise their stability. Understanding the mechanisms behind this framework hydrolysis and exploring strategies to improve hydrothermal stability can extend the operational lifespan of zeolites in various applications. This review summarizes recent advancements in mechanistic insights and techniques to enhance the hydrothermal stability of zeolite frameworks.
