Effect of the family-centered empowerment model on mothers' self-efficacy with hospitalized children: A quasi-experimental study

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the family-centered empowerment model on the self-efficacy of mothers with hospitalized children. A quasi-experimental study was conducted with ۶۰ mothers of hospitalized children, randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. The intervention group received five sessions of family-centered empowerment training based on meaningful learning theory. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and a ۲۰-item self-efficacy scale before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, and independent t-tests. The self-efficacy results for the control group indicated a mean score of ۶۲.۲۷ (SD=۹.۵۱) before the intervention and a mean score of ۶۲.۲۳ (SD=۸.۴۵) after the intervention. The paired t-test revealed no significant difference between the control group's pre- and post-intervention self-efficacy scores (P=۰.۸). In contrast, the self-efficacy scores in the intervention group increased from a mean of ۵۵.۴۴ (SD=۵.۱۱) before the intervention to a mean of ۷۲.۷۷ (SD=۳.۴۵) after the intervention. The paired t-test demonstrated a significant difference in self-efficacy scores before and after the intervention in the intervention group (P<۰.۰۱). Additionally, the independent t-test indicated no significant difference in self-efficacy scores between the intervention and control groups before the intervention (P=۰.۰۶). However, a significant difference was observed between the two groups after the intervention (P<۰.۰۱). The family-centered empowerment model significantly improved the self-efficacy of mothers of hospitalized children. This model offers a cost-effective approach to supporting maternal caregiving abilities, with potential long-term benefits for mothers and children.
