چکیده مقاله:

The dual RC wall-frame system has been a popular choice as a structural system formedium to high-rise buildings in earthquake-prone areas due to the enhancement ofoverall strength, stiffness, and ductile response, as compared to an RC frame building. The T-shaped flanged RC structural wall is widely used in such dual systems, and itexhibits different responses in terms of strength, stiffness, and ductility in case ofreversible loading applied parallel to the web. The same has been substantiated by pastexperimental studies. In the present study, one T-shaped RC structural wall (T۱) isdesigned and detailed according to the conventional procedure. The second T-shapedRC structural wall (T۲) is considered with increased horizontal length of the boundaryelement, as well as increased thickness (enlargement) of the boundary element, both atthe tip of the web. Numerical simulation is performed for both of these configurationsusing the computational platform ABAQUS V۶.۱۴. The Concrete Damage Plasticity(CDP) model is used as the plasticity-based continuum damage model for concrete. From the results, it is also found that the lateral load capacity of T۲ is higher for boththe bending modes. Regarding ultimate drift, the T۲ configuration exhibits higherultimate drift for both web parallel flange-in-tension and web-in-tension bending modesirrespective of reinforcement types. Also, a significant improvement in displacementductility capacity is observed for the T۲ configuration as compared to the T۱configuration, especially for the web parallel flange-in-tension bending mode. Thus, thepresent study indicates the influence of enlarged boundary elements on the seismicbehavior of slender T-shaped RC structural walls.
