چکیده مقاله:

In this study, teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) was compared in different countries.The country of interest was Iran, which has little success in English. Other countries that werecompared were Denmark, Hungary, and Portugal, which had significant achievements in Englishlanguage Education. These countries were selected based on the average scores of five years ofthe Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and the first academic proficiency index.This Research was designed qualitatively. Data on the target countries were collected from thewebsites of the ministries of Education, and governments of the study countries, curricula,Eurydice, and OECD sources. The data was analyzed using The document analysis technique.Comparisons were made regarding public Education systems, goals and objectives, content,teaching, learning process, and evaluation. As a result of this study, the need for a more centralizedstructure in Iran was observed among countries. In addition, the primary goal of Iran in the firstsecondary school is to have a positive attitude towards the English language. Finally, the systemin Iran considers language as a combination of four skills, while other countries emphasize thecommunicative aspect of language.
