Sexual Dysfunction in Infertile Women: A Systematic Review

Background: Sexual health is an important aspect of life. Sexualdysfunction is a common problem affecting women (۴۰%)more than men (۲۰% to ۳۰%). Suggested factors that affectfunction in females are pregnancy, breast feeding, childbirth,interpersonal relationship with partner, socioeconomic factorslike poor educational, level and low income, past history of sexualabuse, circumcision, medical disorders as diabetes, certainmedications like hormonal contraceptives. Infertility is a commonproblem affecting ۱۲/۵ % of couples all over the world. Infertilityhas negative impact on physical and emotional health.Present study was conducted to evaluate the impact of infertil ity on the sexual function in infertile women.Materials and Methods: Searching for information sources(SID, Science Direct, Google Scholar, SCOPUS, PubMed) wascarried out on conducted studies in the past decade .Words Femalesexual function index, Sexual disorder, Infertility, Womenwere used as key words and after removal of repetitive andcommon articles of data bases,۲۵ articles were obtained. Subsequently,by a closer look at the titles and objects of them, theresults of ۱۴ related articles were extracted.Results: Reviewed articles showed based on the comparativestudies, sexual dysfunction prevalence was higher in womenwith infertility. Sexual dysfunction prevalence in infertile womenvaried from ۳۵/۵ to ۸۷ %.Conclusion: Infertility was associated with an increase in femalesexual dysfunction. The most affected areas of sexualfunction were lubrication, orgasm, and satisfaction. So infertilityshould be carefully considered during sexual consultation.
