Assessment of Oxytocin Level, Glucose Metabolism Components and Cutoff Values for Oxytocin and Anti-MullerianHormone in Infertile PCOS Women

Background: Comparing oxytocin level and some other parametersbetween infertile women with or without polycysticovary syndrome (PCOS), to evaluate the correlation betweenoxytocin with anti-mullerian hormone (AMH), body mass index(BMI) and insulin resistance (IR).Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was performedon ۸۰ PCOS and ۸۱ non-PCOS women as the controlgroup. Oxytocin, various hormones, oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR) were compared between two groups. Correlationsbetween parameters were assessed by the spearman’s rankcorrelation coefficient. Cutoff values for oxytocin and AMH inPCOS were calculated by the ROC-Curve and DeLong method.Results: The mean oxytocin level was statistically lower in thecase group (P≤۰.۰۰۱). The mean BMI, AMH, HOMA-IR, fastinginsulin and insulin ۲-hours after ۷۵-g glucose was significantlyhigher in the PCOS group. Oxytocin was negatively correlatedto AMH and also HOMA-IR. However the relationshipbetween oxytocin and BMI was not significant. The calculated cutoff value for oxytocin was ۱۲۵ ng/L and for AMH was ۳.۶ng/mL in the PCOS group.Conclusion: The mean oxytocin level in the PCOS infertilewomen is lower than non-PCOS women. Oxytocin shows a significantreverse correlation with AMH and HOMA-IR.
