چکیده مقاله:

Background: The MTHFR gene known to be involved in thehomocysteine-methionine pathway.Deficiency of MTHFR activitymay cause hyperhomocysteinemia which results in adversepregnancy outcomes. Since, we analyzed the genetic associationof MTHFR gene ۶۷۷ C/T polymorphism with pretermlabor InIranian pregnant women.Materials and Methods: This study performed in a total of۸۰ Iranian pregnant women (۴۰ preterm labor and ۴۰ normallaborcontrols). Study of MTHFR gene ۶۷۷ C/T polymorphismfrequency between the case and the control were assessed. Usingchi-square and logistic regression tests for analysis. The relevantrisk of preterm delivery was represented by odds ratios(ORs) with ۹۵% confidence intervals (۹۵% cls). Results: Based on the results of this study, C/T gene type frequencyof MTHFR gene C۶۷۷T polymorphism was higher incases than the controls (P=۰.۰۰۳, OR=۰.۹۶, ۹۵%, CI=۰.۲۶-۳.۶۴) whereas, no significant correlation was found betweenCC (P=۰.۴۶) and TT (P= ۰.۳۷) gene types with preterm labor. In addition, there was no significant relationship between T alleleand preterm labor. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that genetype CT of MTHFR C۶۷۷T polymorphism might make pretermdelivery risk rise in Iranian women.
