Viability and DNA Integrity Improvement by Adding [۶] -Gingerol to Freezing Medium

چکیده مقاله:

Background: Cryopreservation of sperm is a valuable methodfor maintaining reproductive performance in men with canceror people with sperm abnormalities such as azoospermia andoligospermia. Despite the successes achieved in this method,during this process, sperm injuries happen that reduce thepercentage of sperm viability. Our aim was to investigate theeffects of [۶] -Gingerol as an antioxidant during the spermfreezing and thawing process. Samples were collected from ۲۰normospermic men referred to the Infertility Institute and ResearchCenter and classified into two groups: freezing (control)group and freezing with a medium supplemented with ۱۰ μMof [۶] -Gingerol.Materials and Methods: Cryopreservation of sperm is a valuablemethod for maintaining reproductive performance in menwith cancer or people with sperm abnormalities such as azoospermiaand oligospermia. Despite the successes achieved inthis method, during this process, sperm injuries happen thatreduce the percentage of sperm viability. Our aim was to investigatethe effects of [۶] -Gingerol as an antioxidant during thesperm freezing and thawing process. Samples were collectedfrom ۲۰ normospermic men referred to the Infertility Institute& Research Center and classified into two groups: freezing(control) group and freezing with a medium supplemented with۱۰ μM of [۶] -Gingerol.Results: Our results revealed that freezing with [۶] -Gingerolincrease sperm viability in comparison with control group(۶۴.۰۵ ± ۱.۳۲ and ۵۶.۴۵ ± ۱.۲۶). Whereas this antioxidant hadlittle effect on motility in freezing with [۶] -Gingerol group. FinallyDNA integrity was higher in treated group (۶۲.۳۵ ± ۱.۲۷)as compared to control group (۵۷.۱۳۰ ± ۰.۹۵).Conclusion: We concluded that adding of the [۶] -Gingerol asan antioxidant to the freezing and thawing medium can improvethe sperm cryopreservation condition.
