چکیده مقاله:

Background: Nicotine (NIC), a pharmacologically active alkaloid,is the most active substance in tobacco causing cell divisiondisorder, apoptosis and malformation. This study evaluatedthe possible protective effect of royal jelly (RJ) on testicularhistological damages and antioxidant status in NIC-exposedmale mice.Materials and Methods: ۳۶ male BALB/c mice were randomlydivided into six groups (n=۶). Group ۱ received normalsaline, group ۲ received ۱۰۰ mg/kgBW/day RJ, groups ۳ and ۴received NIC at doses of ۰.۵۰ and ۱.۰۰ mg/kgBW/day, respectivelyand groups ۵ and ۶ received NIC at doses of ۰.۵۰ and۱.۰۰ mg/kg BW/day respectively plus RJ. Following ۳۵ days, all animals were sacrificed and testicular tissues were used forbiochemical (MDA, TAC and CAT) examinations and histopathological(TDI, SPI, MI and SCI) studies. Results: Our observations showed that NIC led to remarkableincreased MDA concentration and reduced the levels of TACand CAT in testicular tissue versus control group. Besides, NICcaused remarkable diminishing in TDI, SPI, MI and SCI indicesin comparison with control group. While RJ co-administrationcould improve all above-mentioned alterations versus NIC receivinggroups. Conclusion: Data from the current study suggest that RJ hasa potential repro-protective action against NIC-induced histologicalabnormality and oxidative stress in mice.
