چکیده مقاله:

Background: Infertility is an important medical and social problem that has an impact on well-being. A significant developmentin the last ۱۰ years in the study of human infertilityhas been the discovery that oxidative sperm DNA damage hasa critical role in the etiology of poor semen quality and maleinfertility. It is now documented that vitamin C and vitamin Eas a potent antioxidants protect the organism against oxidativestress via the inhibition of propagation of ROS reactions. Inreproductive system, the antioxidant's role of this vitamin hasalso been reported to reduce testicular oxidative stress We exploredthe efficacy of vitamin c in combination with vitamin Efor improving semen parameters in infertile men.Materials and Methods: The study included ۳۵۳ infertile menwith idiopathic oligoasthenoteratospermia who received supplementaldaily VitC (۵۰۰ μg) in combination with Vit E (۴۰۰units) for at least ۱۰۰ days. The mean age of cases was ۲۸.۵years (range ۲۰-۴۵), and the median age was ۳۰ years. Thesecases had presented with male factor infertility (primary or secondary)for at least ۱ year. The longest and shortest duration ofinfertility was ۱۰ years and ۱ year, respectively. The mediantime of diagnosis of infertility was ۱ year with a mean of ۲.۵years.Results: We observed ۲۰۸ cases total improvement in spermmotility, morphology, count in comparison with no treatment. No response to treatment occurred in۱۴۵ cases after ۱۴ weeksof combination therapy. On the basis of paired t-test results, combination therapy with oral Vit C and Vit E was effective fortreatment of oligoasthenoteratospermia. Conclusion: Supplemental VitC and Vit E may improve semenquality and have beneficialand protective effects, especiallyon sperm motility. We advocate their use for the treatment ofidiopathic male infertility diagnosed with oligoasthenoteratospermiaor asthenospermia in semen analysis.
