Legitimacy of intentional abortion from the point of view of the parties (Imamiyah and Sunnis)

Intentional abortion or abortion is one of the jurisprudential issues that both Shia and Sunni jurists have expressed different opinions on the sanctity or non-sanctity of intentional abortion. The purpose of this article, which was compiled with descriptive and analytical method, is to examine the views of the Arbaah Sunni and Imamite Shia schools regarding abortion. Based on the findings of this research, in general, two stages of embryo development play a significant role in the Islamic scholars' view; One is before the soul is breathed into the fetus, which according to Sunni and Shia scholars, abortion can be permitted at this stage, with the condition that the continuation of the pregnancy is a threat to the mother's life; But the stage after the soul is breathed into the embryo has become a place of discussion and disagreements between the jurists in the Khamsa schools, which are divided into two groups of supporters and opponents. It seems that the opinion that prevails is the same as the permission of abortion after blowing the soul in case of threat to the mother's life.
