This research delved into the structural redundancy of langer arch steel aqueduct bridges followingthe collapse of the Musota Aqueduct Bridge in Wakayama City, attributed to corrosion in its hangingmembers. The bridge, erected in ۱۹۷۳, comprises a seven-span steel Langer arch design. Through anexhaustive analysis of this case, we evaluated the bridge's capacity to withstand loads postulated bythe potential failure of hanging members due to corrosion. Utilizing static non-linear structuralanalysis, a standard methodology for redundancy assessment, we constructed a three-dimensionalfinite-element (FE) model to accurately replicate the bridge's characteristics. Moreover, acomprehensive static nonlinear finite element examination focusing on the hanging members of theLanger arch bridge revealed the ramifications of potential failure on redundancy. Drawing from theinsights gleaned from this investigation, we proposed recommendations for judicious bridgemaintenance practices aimed at ensuring the longevity and safety of similar bridge structures.
