چکیده مقاله:

A friction pendulum isolator (FPS) represents a common type of seismic isolator employed forelevated storage tanks, emphasizing the seismic significance and optimal design considerations forthese structures. However, FPS, characterized by a constant time period, may be susceptible to factorslike long-period earthquakes, leading to resonance phenomena. Therefore, in this study, whileinvestigating the variable friction pendulum isolator as a solution due to the variable frequencydepending on the isolator surface curve, a suitable optimization function is proposed to optimize theparameters related to the geometrical function of the isolator surface using meta-heuristic algorithms.The primary objective of this optimization function is to minimize the acceleration transmitted to thesuperstructure, thereby enhancing the dynamic performance of the elevated storage tank. Time historyanalysis under long-period ground motions reveals the significant positive impact of the proposedoptimal isolator in mitigating the dynamic response of a steel elevated liquid storage tank.
