Self-centering (SC) structures are suitable alternatives for conventional ductile structures as theycan withstand large deformations and have minimized residual deformations, enhancing the postearthquakeperformance of structures. Several numerical modeling approaches are proposed tosimulate the nonlinear behavior of SC structures but their advantages over each other are not clarifiedyet. In this paper, two numerical modeling approaches are adopted and compared to each other;Distributed Spring and Fiber-based model. It is concluded that both approaches are capable ofsimulating the rocking motion of SC structures. However, the Fiber-based model is a better optionwhen the SC structure is expected to undergo high extents of nonlinearity in the vicinity of rockingjoints.
