چکیده مقاله:

Steel cylindrical shells are common configuration in many industrial structures. Due to their smallwall thickness, they are highly vulnerable to buckling failure under imposed loads. For access reasons, cutouts are used in these structures which can facilitate the buckling susceptibility. Accordingly, thispaper presents a numerical investigation on this issue considering the axial compression loads. Thisloading state rises from structure’s self-weight, the weight of structural attachments and possibly theportion of content weight. The bending moment caused by lateral loadings such as, seismic or windacions are other sources for amplification the axial compressive stresses in shell walls. The numericalfinite element analyses conducted in this research are accompanied with Eurocode provisions as aglobally recognized and advanced standard for the analysis and design of shell structures. The resultsobtained especially emphasize on the effect of boundry condition on buckling strength of steelcylinderical shells with cutouts.
