Process for preventing gel formation during polymerization of cis-۱, ۴-polybutadiene

linear cis-۱,۴ polybutadiene having a very low level of gel content is prepared by a processcomprising polymerizing ۱,۳-butadiene in the presence of a cobalt salt- diethyl aluminum chloride -water catalyst system. The polymerization is carried out in the presence as polymerization diluent ofa mixture of cis-۲-Butene and toluene. The reaction product was deactivated with methanol and thepolybutadiene was recovered by coagulation with water, washed and dried. In this study, the differentgelation inhibitor was added to the polymerization system and the appropriate gelation inhibitor wasdetermined.
