Effect of Polytetrahydrofuran on the Rheological Properties of HTPB-basedPolyurethanes

This study investigates the effect of polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) as a reactive plasticizer on HTPBbasedpolyurethanes with toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and isofurone diisocyanate (IPDI) curingagents. The increase in polyurethane viscosity during curing was investigated. It was found that PTHFhas a different effect on the reaction between isocyanate and diol and consequently on viscositydepending on the type of curing agent and the concentration of PTHF. For example, increasing theconcentration of PTHF in TDI systems greatly increases the reaction rate, while increasing theconcentration of PTHF in IPDI systems decreases the reaction rate.
