Polyhexamethyl biguanide -Releasing bacterial cellulose Membranes forAntimicrobial Wound Dressings

Bacterial cellulose (BC) wound dressing is a hydrogel dressing that is suitable for the care andtreatment of chronic wounds due to its special properties. But it is not suitable for infected woundsdue to its lack of antibacterial properties. Polyhexamethyl biguanide (PHMB) is a synthetic polymerthat has antibacterial and anti-biofilm properties. In this report, the antibacterial property of BCdressing was measured by adding PHMB in different concentrations to BC, as well as the release rateof PHMB in PBS solution. The results showed that the final dressing had antibacterial properties andalso the release rate of phmb showed that the release of phmb was carried out for up to ۳ days, whichindicates a suitable dressing for infected wounds.
