Effect of Recycling Cycles on MFI and Tensile Properties of HDPE

Recycling polymer materials significantly benefits the environment; however, increasing thenumber of recycling cycles leads to a reduction in the physical and mechanical properties of thepolymers. In this paper the effects of recycling cycles on the melt flow index (MFI) and tensileproperties of high density polyethylene (HDPE) is investigated. Through experimental testing,changes in MFI and mechanical properties due to the repeated recycling are examined. Multiplerecycling of HDPE initially increases the MFI from ۰.۳ to ۳.۶ g/۱۰ min, then decreases it to ۰.۳۸g/۱۰ min. It also reduces tensile strength.
