چکیده مقاله:

Polymers-based drug delivery systems (DDS) play an important role in cancer treatment applications.Biopolymers due to their prominent properties such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and easeof access are suitable alternatives for synthetic polymers. On the other hand, nanocarriers that aremodified with ligands, provide a specific active targeting. Pectin biopolymer is an anionicpolysaccharide that has naturally galactose groups that can attach to liver hepatocyte receptors. Inthis study, pectin nanoparticles (NPs) are prepared by a water in oil emulsification method with anaverage size of ۵۸ nm and zeta potential of -۳۲ mV. Anticancer doxorubicin (DOX) was physicallyloaded with ۹۰% drug loading efficiency. To assess the selectivity of pectin NPs to hepatic cancercells, two various cell lines. HepG۲ (liver cell line) and L۹۲۹ (non-liver cells) were treated withDOX@pectin NPs. MTT assay was conducted to study the toxicity of DOX@pectin NPs. Resultsshowed that DOX@pectin NPs cell viability of HepG۲ cells that possess receptors for galactosegroups of pectin structure was significantly less compared to L۹۲۹ cells. So, pectin-based NPs couldbe potential candidates for liver cancer treatment.
