چکیده مقاله:

Microbial Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are promising biopolymers are used as biodegradable material toalleviate some of the environmental issues of petroleum-derived polymers. In this work, synthesis of PHA fromsome agricultural wastes including pistachio green hull (PGH), tomato pulp and olive press cake were comparedby using Pseudomonas sp. and Bacillus sp. First, PHA production from substrates in cultures was confirmed byGC-MS; cell mass and polymer production yields were then determined and measured. Produced PHA wasanalyzed based on composition to find a commercial application that justifies the cost of production. Resultsshowed not only amount of PHA production was different significantly on different substrates in both strainsbut also they varied in composition. Also, PHAs from olive press cake and pistachio green hull (PGH)contained longer chain subunits included unsaturated ۳-hydroxyalkanoates that tended to be entirely amorphousand did not crystallize; they remained tacky, and recommended to be used as a biodegradable adhesive or glue. While PHA polymers from tomato waste were crystalline and can be used as material in packaging or wounddressing.
