Preparation and Characterization of Polyvinyl alcohol Thin Films

This work reports the preparation of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) thin films that can be used for variousapplications in different fields. The PVA thin films were prepared by solvent casting method using a%۵ w/v solution of PVA. The morphological, physical, structural, mechanical, thermal, andhydrophilic properties of the resultant thin films are fully investigated using different techniques andcompared with PVA granules. According to the result, the prepared PVA thin films in this studyshowed high transparency and uniform texture with smooth morphological characteristics. The FTIRspectra, XRD pattern, and thermal properties of PVA are significantly affected by converting to thinfilms. The prepared thin films also showed higher hydrophilicity in the contact angle measurements.A three-hour aqueous stability was observed in dissolution studies for resultant thin films. Finally,the highest WVTR performance of the PVA thin films was revealed to be ۸۴.۳±۰۲.۸۱ g.m/m۲.day.Pa.
