Examining the impact of polymer coatings on the bolts and nuts used inpetrochemicals

The widespread use of bolts and nuts in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries causes theproduction of various types of bolts and nuts or connections in these industries. The coating of boltsand nuts is very important in the lifetime of transmission line equipment and accessories. One of themost famous of these coatings is polymer coatings. In this research, Dacromet polymer (includingPolytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), Zn, and Al) powders were used to coat bolts and nuts. The resultsshowed that The polymer coating did not reduce the hardness of the bolts and nuts. The polymercoating significantly improved the corrosion resistance of the bolts and nuts. Consequently, due tothe enhanced corrosion resistance, the lifespan of the bolts and nuts was greatly extended. Althoughthe coating delays the corrosion process, it cannot completely prevent it. Therefore, maintenanceintervals in sites and petrochemical complexes can be increased.
