Determination of Miscibility and Interaction Parameter of PolymerMixtures in Dilute Solution

Dilute solution viscometry (DSV) is a simple and readily available method for determining the compatibility ofpolymer mixtures. In this study, DSV method were used to determine the compatibility of poly(vinylchloride)/poly(styrene-co-acrylonitrile) SAN/PVC blend with different blend ratios. In addition, viscometric datawere also used to determine the polymer interaction characteristics. The mixtures containing low amounts of SANwere compatible. With increasing SAN in the polymer mixture, the polymer-solvent interaction increased fromabout ۰.۳ to ۰.۴ and the polymer-polymer interaction increased from about ۰.۰۵ to ۰.۱.
