Investigation of cerium-based conversion coating as a suitable alternative tochromate conversion coating

The present study aims to introduce an alternative conversion coating for chromium conversioncoatings(CrCC) on aluminum substrates. Chromium conversion coatings, due to their hexavalentchromium content, are toxic and hazardous to human health and the environment. Therefore, in orderto introduce a substitute coating, the use of conversion coatings with other earth elements such ascerium is considered. In this research, the introduction and comparison of two cerium conversioncoatings(CeCC) with different ion percentages and different pH values, and the evaluation of thecoatings created with chromium coatings were used for corrosion resistance through contact anglemeasurements and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) testing.
