Effects of common fire retardants on the stratification of an epoxy-acryliccoating

This study explores the effects of aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide, common fireretardants, on the self-stratification behavior of an epoxy-acrylic coating. The fire-retardant agentswere added to the self-stratifying epoxy-acrylic coating at PVC=۱%, and the change in coatingmorphology was evaluated. The addition of aluminum hydroxide did not disrupt the type-Istratification pattern. Meanwhile, the addition of magnesium hydroxide halted self-stratification.Aluminum hydroxide had a particle size of ۵ micrometers, but magnesium hydroxide had a particlesize of ۳.۵ micrometers and a hydrophobic surface treatment.
