Investigation of the Effect of Adding ABS on the Mechanical Properties ofEpoxy Resin

Epoxy resins (EPs) have been recognized as the most widely used thermosetting materials withintrinsic mechanical and chemical stability, heat and corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, andstrong bonding properties. A variety of coreactants are used to cure epoxy resins. Polyamines are themost common curing agent with reaction involving ring-opening addition of amine. ABS is athermoplastic and amorphous polymer that contributes to high impact resistance, toughness, heatstability, chemical resistance and the ability to perform functional tests on sample parts. Mixing ABSwith EPs can result in achieving a sample with desirable properties from both polymers. In this study,the effect of mixing ABS with EP on the mechanical properties of the samples is investigated. Basedon the obtained results, adding ABS to EP generally increases the mechanical properties of thesamples. In sample ۳, with ۲.۵ g of ABS, the max stress and max strain reach to ۷.۰۴۳ MPa and ۲.۷%,respectively.
