چکیده مقاله:
Water resource management is essential, with dams serving as crucial components. This study introduces a remote-sensing-based (RS) method tailored for water balance investigations, focusing on water storage monitoring. The study area is the Karun (IV) reservoir, a prominent dam in southwestern Iran. Employing a conceptual model, the daily reservoir inflow volume was simulated, calibrated, and validated using observed data. RS provided precipitation (P) and evapotranspiration (ET) data, while a sensitivity analysis gauged the significance of each inflow model parameter. Water evaporation, determined by the reservoir's surface area and corresponding evaporation rate, was computed. Altimetry data pinpointed changes in water storage. The water balance equation was then applied to compute the daily reservoir outflow. This approach utilizes remote sensing, making it suitable for reservoirs where field data collection is impractical or expensive. Remarkably, the error between observed and simulated outflow remained below ۲%, demonstrating the method's accuracy. In conclusion, the developed method proves valuable for efficient water resources management, particularly in scenarios where conventional data collection methods pose challenges.
