Numerous urban systems globally are forecasted to experience ramifications from climate change, including amplified rainfall intensity, storm surge, flooding, and the urban heat island effect. These changes will heavily influence the management of cities and their inhabitants, as well as the services they offer. In order to mitigate this impact, adaptation measures will likely need to be implemented. Smart city solutions offer promising avenues for addressing the challenges posed by climate change through innovative technological interventions. This article provides a comprehensive review of the integration of smart city solutions with climate change adaptation actions. It explores the potential of various technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), ۵G, and so on in adapting to climate change impacts in urban environments. The article also discusses the role of smart urban systems in enhancing resilience to climate change through measures such as urban planning, transportation, waste management, and water resource management. By leveraging smart city technologies, cities can better prepare for and respond to the adverse effects of climate change, ultimately fostering sustainable and resilient urban development.
