Enhancement of visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of Malachite green with SnO۲-doped Mn۳O۴ nanstructure

Photocatalysts composed of manganese oxide doped with Tin oxide have been synthesized, characterized and their application in water treatment was investigated. The modified Mn۳O۴ samples were synthesized by the simple sol–gel technique starting from manganese (II) acetate tetra hydrate and hexamethylenetetramine and using Tin chloride as precursors of the doping, with the some content ۵, ۱۰ and ۱۵ wt % [۱]. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to characterize as-synthesized samples. The structural properties of the SnO۲- doped Mn۳O۴ were significantly different depending on the amount of doping percent. Compared with pure Mn۳O۴ sample, the findings demonstrate the SnO۲-doped-Mn۳O۴ nano structures represented better photocatalytic performance for degradation of Malachite green (MG). The higher photocatalytic performance was assigned to SnO۲ doping, which lead to decrease the recombination rate of electron-hole pairs and nanorod morphology of the as synthesized products [۲].
