The Evaluation A Case Study of Quality of Google Translate Vs Chat GPT

With the advancement of technology, people use machine translation to quickly understand foreign text from sources like emails, websites, and other computer-based materials that they wouldn't be able to understand otherwise. While, they may not be perfect, they can still be useful for saving time and money. Although, they act pretty well at translating different types of text even without the help of a human translator, but they usually fail in translating literary texts. Today, Google Translate and Chat GPT are The most useful and popular engines in our country, Iran. In order to translate literary texts, this question may come to mind that, which one of these two translation engines can give the best translation to the users? To answer this question, ۳۰ proverbs had been chosen from a similar article and had been given to these two Translation engines. Then the output texts had been evaluated based on the Naturalness theory of Nida. The translated proverbs had been compared and contrasted according to; A) intelligibility and naturalness of form and B) the point of informativeness or how well they can convey the implied message or meaning of the proverb. According to the final results, this study concluded that, Google can present a more fluent and more accurate translation in comparison with Chat GPT.
