چکیده مقاله:

Objective: Emotion regulation strategies play a crucial role in shaping psychological well-being and mental health outcomes. This study investigated the relationships between two prominent emotion regulation strategies, and indicators of mental health. Methods: Data were collected from ۲۷۴ participants who completed online questionnaires, including the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ). Results: Correlation analyses revealed a significant negative association between cognitive reappraisal and mental health across multiple domains, including somatic symptoms, anxiety, depression, and overall mental health. Notably, the strongest negative correlation was observed between cognitive reappraisal and depressive symptoms (r = -۰.۲۲۴, p < ۰.۰۰۱), followed by the total GHQ score (r = -۰.۲۰۸, p < ۰.۰۰۱). In contrast, expressive suppression did not exhibit significant correlations with any of the psychological distress indicators. Conclusion: These findings underscore the protective role of cognitive reappraisal in mitigating mental health and highlight the importance of fostering this adaptive emotion regulation strategy in therapeutic interventions. While expressive suppression did not show significant associations in our sample. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence on the differential impacts of emotion regulation strategies on mental health and emphasizes the value of promoting cognitive reappraisal skills to enhance psychological well-being.
