Introduction: Traumatic brain injury is one of the serious medical problems and one of theconsequences of brain injuries is post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE). Epilepsy with a globalprevalence of ۱% is the third most common neurological disorder after stroke and Alzheimer'sdisease, and trauma is responsible for ۲۰% of symptomatic epilepsy. In America and Europe,more than half a million people suffer from epilepsy caused by trauma. Our country, Iran, dueto the high number of road accidents, is facing a large number of victims of concussions andinjuries caused by it. One of the things that can help in the diagnosis and treatment of thisdisease is knowing the prevalence of the disease and the factors that can affect it. In this article,the study of age and gender prevalence of epilepsy and damage after concussion is one of themain goals and has been investigated.Research method: This study is a retrospective descriptive study related to the years ۱۳۹۷-۱۴۰۰ and was conducted using ۱۳۵ cases who were hospitalized with epilepsy. After collectingthe required information, by checking the relevant statistics, tables and graphs were drawn.Results: In the present study, epilepsy was more common in men than women and the mostcommon age range of the referent was ۲۰-۲۹ years old. Among the factors affecting it, posttraumaticepilepsy is more common than other factors. Regarding the prevalence of epilepsyafter the accident, the statistics we obtained in our study (۹.۶%) is close to the global statistics(۷.۸%), considering the high prevalence of epilepsy in Iran compared to the world and alsoconsidering the role of Environmental factors are important in causing epilepsy, it seems thatserious attention should be drawn to the factors that cause it, such as trauma caused by trafficaccidents and occupational factors.
